When I was a young girl, I asked my parents where the first people came from. I learned about Creation from my Bible and my mother bought me some kids books about Human Evolution. I was far from satisfied. I couldn’t believe the ‘adults’ didn’t even know how we got here. I have been searching for the truth ever since then. I occasionally find clues and try to piece them together. I’m starting this blog to gather my thoughts and share them with other curious souls… I hope you enjoy this site and learn something new or at least open your mind to the possibilities…
I should warn you from the outset that (despite my B.S. in Biology from the University of Maryland, College Park) my critical thinking has led me to favor the Ancient Alien hypothesis. I have taken classes in Evolutionary Biology and Physical Anthropology and I have trouble with the concept of macroevolution. Microevolution says that a species can have small changes and adapt over a long period of time, but macroevolution says that one species can evolve into another species. Many species have different numbers of chromosomes, so this change would require the possibility that the number of chromosomes can change to create a new species.
Now the chimpanzee, our closest genetic relative, has one more pair of chromosomes than humans. This is explained by the fact that humans have one chromosome that is made up of two chromosomes stuck together. A pretty good explanation for the change in number, but how did they get stuck together? And if this happened in only one ‘human’, then how did it continue into an entire species? Did these sticky chromosomes happen in a male and female at the same time, allowing them to mate and make more humans? Obviously there are many unanswered questions still. I’m not saying Evolution didn’t happen, but I think the story of our origins might be more complicated than that.
I also took a philosophy class and learned about Occam’s Razor. Some people may argue that Creationism or Evolution are simpler than Ancient Aliens. However, I don’t think Occam’s Razor applies here. Take, for example, the population of the U.S.A. If one were to ask, “Where did these people come from?” The answer is not simple at all. There are Native Americans, whose exact origins are still unknown, there are immigrants that came from different continents at different times for many different reasons, and then there are some people who are a mix of these different ancestries. Each person has a unique story of the origins of their ancestors and some of those stories are easier to discover than others.
I love researching my own ancestors as part of my quest to find my personal origins. The number of ancestors doubles with each generation going back into history. It quickly becomes overwhelming. I know I will never find all of my ancestors, the numbers seem to approach infinity. Yet, there cannot be an infinity of people in history. As we go back in history, the size of the human population decreases, so the number of ancestors in each generation must also decrease at some point. Somewhere beyond that point, back in prehistory, is the truth of our ancestors and their origins…
