Secret Underground Libraries

I love the movie Beautiful Creatures. (Spoiler Alert!) I especially love the secret underground library full of magical books. The ‘keeper’ says that these tunnels go all over the country. I have read the book that inspired the movie in the hopes of learning more details about this secret underground world. I have even had dreams in which I discover secret underground libraries. I realize this movie and book are fiction, but I still love the idea.

It reminds me of a book I read called The Coming Race written by Edward Bulwer-Lytton and published in 1871. This book was mentioned on the TV show Ancient Aliens in relation to the Nazis and the Vril Society. The book can be taken as fiction or as a warning to humanity. It is the story of the discovery of a secret underground world and a race of superhumans that inhabit that world. They have supernatural power called vril. If they ever came to the surface and confronted our human society, they could destroy us.

There are underground structures that have been discovered in Turkey. They go down several levels and can hold many people. They were deserted when found, but seem to have been a residence for a large number of people in the past. Who were these people? Why were they living underground? And where did they go?

In California where I live, our houses don’t even have basements. Being from the East Coast, this seems strange to me. Most houses in the East and Midwest are built with basements. I keep having the uncanny feeling that there is something under our house, like a tunnel or secret underground structure. One day I heard someone cough and it sounded like it was coming from the basement, but we don’t have a basement.  Maybe someday I’ll find the entrance…

In northern California, Mt. Shasta is said to have an underground city hidden beneath it.  The city is called Telos and is inhabited by the survivors of the lost continent of Lemuria.  They are immortal, tall, blonde humans with the ability to become invisible at will.  Their underground city has a tunnel system connecting them with other underground cities all over this hemisphere, including a city in Brazil.  There is a legend that the history of the human race is recorded and stored in Telos.  I would like to visit Telos, meet the Lemurians, and learn our hidden history…
